My Mother - An Epitome of Endurance

Image
My mother Smt. Veluvali. Bhramaramba passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of 01-01-2010 at 0630 hours. She has been suffering for the last thirty years with arthritis. She has been on the bed since my father's death in 1976. All these years she guided us like a lighthouse. We were small children when father passed away. I was fifteen years old. I am the eldest of all the children and only son. I have three sisters. All are juniors to me. My father worked in Education Department in Andhra Pradesh. We moved from place to place as and when he was transferred. But when he started suffering from blindness due to long standing diabetic condition, he took a long leave and we began our life in Palakol, a nice place in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. That was in 1975. Within one year my father succumbed to his illness, leaving us behind.  My mother directed my fights, giving me much needed words of courage and understanding. We fought for my f...

Amazing True Story

Image
This is a true story that had happened in 1892 at Stanford University. Its moral is still relevant today. A young, 18 year old student was struggling to pay his fees. He was an orphan, and not knowing where to turn for money, he came up with a bright idea. A friend and he decided to host a musical concert on campus to raise money for their education. They reached out to the great pianist Ignacy J. Paderewski. His manager demanded a guaranteed fee of $2,000 for the piano recital. A deal was struck. And the boys began to work to make the concert a success. The big day arrived. Paderewski performed at Stanford. But unfortunately, they had not managed to sell enough tickets. The total collection was only $1,600. Disappointed, they went to Paderewski and explained their plight. They gave him the entire $1,600, plus a check for the balance of $400. They promised to honor the check soonest possible. "No" said Paderewski. "This is not acceptable" He to...

Peace and Harmony

Yes! We are all human being first and then religion comes next. How many fanatics will understand this? Let us read a good story. It is about the superior wisdom of pigeons. In a temple, a number of pigeons lived happily on roof top. When the renovation of the temple began for the annual temple feast the pigeons relocated themselves to a Church nearby. The existing pigeons in the Church accommodated the new comers very well. Christmas was nearing and the Church was given a facelift. All the pigeons had to move out and look for another place. They were fortunate to find a place in a Mosque nearby. The pigeons in the Mosque welcomed them happily. It was Ramadan time and the Mosque was repainted. All the pigeons now came to the same temple.  One day the pigeons on top found some communal  clashes below in a market square. The baby pigeon asked the mother pigeon "Who are these p...
